25 - 31 December 2002 (206)

Last week...

(1) We needed advanced and ongoing prayer for approval on our visas, even though you'd already paid for them. [Your weekly tithe makes a big difference!] I had been told to return around the end of October/beginning of November once a 'background check' was done. You asked God to grant such permission for our stay... I have an appointment tomorrow and will remember the One Who has heard your ongoing petition!

(2) The co-worker you prayed for who needed personal goods moved out of the West Bank stood in need of getting those goods to her new home in Gaza, but it's not as easy as it sounds. You prayed that her household goods would be allowed quick entry into Gaza with *no* difficulty whatsoever... a few minor annoyances occurred; however, she's looking at receiving everything by the end of November.

(3) I mentioned my ongoing desire to lose weight and asked you to join me in asking that I would remain obedient to keeping my body as God's temple (Acts 7:48; 17:24), that I would continue to refrain from eating after 8pm, that I would continue to drink 3 quarts/liters of water a day, and that I would *begin* exercising... I've been hovering around 226 lbs. and weighed in last week at 225.4 lbs or 102.2 kg. From now on I'll add my weight to the 'Last week... header. I still need adequate exercise.

(4) My youngest sister and her husband celebrated their first wedding anniversary last week, and you prayed that they would hear His voice to make "chapel visits" a weekly habit... no news announcing such a change came in this week :-(

This week...

(1) Pray for "Omar" to be convinced of God's existence through dreams, visions, or better yet through the copy of the Arabic Bible he now possesses.

(2) May this week be the week we finally receive our renewed visas.

(3) Ask God to work through a utility glitch and a monthly computer backup procedure (maybe I should keep that one for my natural birthday <g>)

(4) As Ramadan begins pray that a countless number of Muslims would turn to Jesus and that the church would be ready to receive them.

May God find us listening more attentively to His voice this week as I am,

Yours because His,

Scott

Saudi Arabs

"I'm risking my life to call you, Steven. The Ministry of Interior (MOI) raided our home last night and arrested my husband, Isaac. They said they have names of Christians which have been extracted from a computer and will not stop until every Christian 'heathen' is arrested and killed!" The frantic Christian Saudi woman was calling Steven, a leader for human rights for Christian Concern. She tearfully pleaded with him, "Please pray for us! Speak up for us before it is too late!"

Saudi Arabia is regarded as the world's most serious persecutor of Christians and abuser of religious liberty. By law, all Saudi nationals must be Muslims. Apostasy is a capital offence, so any Saudi who finds Christ can be put to death.

The seven million foreigners who live and work in Saudi Arabia are also under Sharia law, which forbids the practice of any non-Muslim religion. Saudi Christians are being arrested on almost a daily basis. They are put through psychological and physical torture and pressured to deny their faith and give information to the police about other Christians.

Pray that God will protect and anoint Saudi Christians. May the witness of Christian foreigners draw many Saudis to the Lord. Pray that Christ will reveal Himself to members of the Saudi royal family.

"In the days when the judges ruled, there was a famine in the land, and a man from Bethlehem in Judah...went to live for a while in the country of Moab" Ruth 1:1.

God's intention was that Israel should be blessed and then be a blessing to the nations. Instead, Israel scorned her Maker, and God's subsequent affliction of people and land drove many Israelites to seek sustenance from other nations. When God's people refuse to use the resources God has given them to bless the families of the earth, God may withdraw those blessings from them and bring them, by force, to face both their own poverty of soul and the needs of the peoples of the earth.

O God, make us a blessing to the refugees around us and to peoples far away.
