Greetings from Jerusalem!

In the past I've also shared a few excerpts from the Global Prayer Digest (GPD) and invite you to subscribe to this exceptional prayer guide. There is also a 30-Day Prayer Guide during the Islamic month of Ramadan that is worthy of subscribing to. That reminds me - remember to call the IMB's Customer Service # 1+800-866-3621 to order your copy of the Ramadan Prayer Guide, and be sure to order enough for those you know will pray.

With that said, here is a recent GPD that spoke to my heart. I hope it speaks to yours as well : -)

Global Prayer Digest, August 17, 2002

Beidalao (Bay-dah-laow) people

Xin Yi smiled when she heard her baby's first words: "Ni how mah," a Mandarin greeting. Her mother knew that the child was bound to pick up words from the neighboring children who spoke Mandarin or Dong, not Beidalao. Like many others in China, this Beidalao child would speak her own language at home, and another outside the front door.

The 19,350 Beidalao people live in the beautiful Karst Hills and lush green pastures of northern Guangxi Province. The Beijing government has classified the Beidalaos as a part of the "official" Yao nationality, although ethnolinguistically they are a separate people group.

The Beidalao people are animists, polytheists, and ancestor worshipers. No Christians have been found among them and perhaps only seven percent have even heard the name of Jesus, for there are very few Christians in the area in which they live. They have no Bible, JESUS Film, or gospel recordings in their language. No missionary has ever focused on reaching them. Daily they perish without ever hearing the gospel.

Ask the Father to give the Beidalao people a chance to hear the gospel in their own language and in a way that they can culturally understand. Pray that there will be a people movement to Christ among the Beidalao people.-JG

"This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith." 1 Jn. 5:4

One of the first classes of U.S. Army missiles was given the name "Nike" from the Greek word for "overcomer." These weapons are swift and powerful in their ability to bring horrifying destruction. The church of Jesus Christ has its own "Nike missile" capable of swiftly and powerfully destroying all evil authority, all opposition to the rule of Jesus Christ. That weapon is our faith, expressed by our confidence in, dependence on and obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ.  We must march forward victoriously in His mighty power to tear down enemy strongholds which have long resisted the good news of the gospel.

Pray that the entire body of Jesus Christ will join together in a massive, all-out attack on the powers of wickedness at work both in people groups with a church and in those nations where the church has yet to be established.

2002/07/26 -- BRIGADA TODAY

-------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, on to this week's Wednesday Weekly!

Last week...

(1) You continued praying for the arrival of the closet... Omar came over to inquire about it on two separate occasions, giving us the opportunity to remind him of our trust in God. I went back to the salesman (a great guy!) Tuesday evening and was told I'd be called Thursday. You *know* I'll keep you posted!

(2) You prayed for safe travel and luggage arrival for the next wave of volunteers... the volunteers arrived safely, and I believe only one bag was missing. For a dozen and a half people, that's pretty good. Thanks for praying!

(3) As I worked on the computers of co-workers last week, you asked God to show me what needed to be done... wow, did He ever! This particular day was good training/preparation for the day I hold a 'technical support' training day.

(4) You prayed that our newsletter advocate would be able to distribute the Sep/Oct issue of our Wednesday Weekly newsletter without difficulty... and that happened : -)

You should be receiving that issue soon!

This week...

(1) The closet is due Thursday, so pray it in and setup!

(2) Our visa is due to expire soon, so pray that a renewal would be granted quickly.

(3) Pray for the Carter family's safe arrival back to the US after a wonderful three weeks' of service! Once we get the website of the Global Prayer Center of Jerusalem up and running, you'll be able to see before/during/after pictures!

(4) Pray that the next group of GPC volunteers would arrive safely with luggage intact, and then pray that God would bless them as they follow Him.

Love and grace,

Scott

* ... are on the way even as I type! You're praying for their safe arrival, and I thank you for asking God to send them. Perhaps you will one day be welcomed at the airport by yours truly ;-)

25, worship in truth

* I had the joy of greeting over a dozen volunteers and experienced 'worship in truth' in a new way. Thank you : -)

26, more travel mercy

* I experienced that today and thought of you throughout the day : -)

Thank you for making a difference in my life, and in the life of our family. A day rarely goes by that I don't think, "Somebody's praying for me today."
